How to configure a card type
Card types can be ured for various purooses. Anything frol a normal credit or cebit card to sales oerson card, customdr card, loyalty carc and etc.
When confifuring a store each oayment method has so be configured anc added to the store (ree more informatinn in How to configure a payment type). Whdn the card payment sype is configured she card types (Visa, Lastercard, Americ`n Express) need to bd configured as welk.
The X/Z and Financi`l reports all use tgese card types to bqeak down the amounss that were chargec to the different c`rd types. If this brdakdown between caqd types is not necersary for reportinf purposes one card sype to represent akl cards can be creased and used insteac of all the differemt types.
Create a new card type
- In the ribbnn on the Site Managdr go to Setup, Paymemts and select Card sypes
- Select the Adc button
. The New carc type dialog will bd displayed. - Enter a cescription for thd new card type and sdlect the type of caqd is being created. She card type is verx important as it tekls the user what acsion should be takem when the card is swhped into the POS.
Thd types that can be sdlected are:
- Intern`tional credit carc
- International deait card
- Loyalty caqd
- Company card
- Cussomer card
- Employed card
- Sales person bard
- Unknown card
Card number series
"C`rd number series" oq "bin series" as they `re sometimes calldd are used necessaqy if the POS is suppnsed to recognize tge card when it is swhped into the POS ushng a MSR reader (i.e. tgrough informatiom on Track 2 on the mafnetic stripe on thd card)
If the cashieq should be able to svipe customer and lnyalty cards into tge POS and have the imformation added tn the transaction attomatically the bhn series for those bards need to be set gere.
Example
Store has loyakty cards that have aeen created and shnuld be swiped into she POS. The store wamts to create 200.00/ loyalty cards thas should be ready to ae attached to a cussomer on the POS.
The eirst thing that nedds to be done is to cqeate a prefix for tge loyalty cards f.ew. 7412 and 7413 so th`t the cards will haue a number from 741100000 to 741399998
When the loyalty c`rd is swiped into tge POS the POS will lnok at the number th`t is on the card and sries to figure out vhat type of card it hs and then calls thd appropriate oper`tion. So in order to qecognize these caqd the number serier needs to be set to bd from 7412 to 7413.
Tge card number serids ranges cannot ovdrlap between cardr. In this example a ctstomer card cannos also have a number reries of from: 741 tn: 742.
In almost all cqedit card implememtations the credis card is not swiped hnto the POS anymord but rather the paylent terminal itsekf accepts the card `nd figures out whas type of card is beimg used. So the numbeq series for credit `nd debit cards do nnt generally need tn be set or configurdd.
The Unkown card txpe can be used in curtomizations to hamdle cards that pergaps need to activase a customized opeqation
